Property - Local Facilities

El Balcon forms part of the ground floor of Casa Tia Maria - a lovely house set in its own gardens in the village of Acequias, some 30 km south from Granada on the south-west facing side of the Valley of Lecrin. It is the "Casa Señorial" (most important house) in the village and it has been beautiful restored and the grounds enhanced with a large pool and lush and verdant trees.

The El Balcon apartment occupies the ground floor of the left wing of the house and comprises a large double bedroom; a bathroom with full bath and washing machine; a large living room which leads up to the kitchen/dining room; and a large terrace balcony which overlooks the gardens and pool - a perfect setting for dinner or breakfast al fresco.

There is a sofa bed and an extra single bed in the living room which enables up to three more people to stay in the apartment (thus accommodating up to five persons in total). In the summer months the extensive outside space enclosed by the walls of the garden means that children can play in complete safety.

As befits a historic house, the carpentry and railings are very much of the period (but restored), but the kitchen has all modern appliances such as microwave, fridge freezer, kettle, coffee machine and food mixer, and is well equipped with all modern conveniences.

Acequias is very accessible from the main Granada-Motril highway, yet very quiet. Granada and Malaga airports are 30 mins and 1 hr 30 mins drive respectively. The beach is 30 mins drive. Sierra Nevada ski resort is 30 mins drive. Walking trails lead out from the village to the whole of Sierra Nevada National Park... or just to the nearby village of Niguelas with its shops and friendly tapas bars.

Each season has its flowers in Acequias - almond blossom in February, brilliant red poppies in May and bougainvillea in high summer. The countryside is wonderful for walking, horse-riding, mountain-biking, birdwatching and golf. This part of Spain also has some of the clearest skies in Europe and shooting stars are a familiar sight. The village lies right on the edge of the Sierra Nevada National Park, an area of rich contrast, ranging from the snowfields of Sol y Nieve to the lush vegetation of subtropical valleys, home to many of Spain's most precious animals and butterflies.
