A few of Tinbee's suggested walks (optional picnic can be included on request) -

Graham has outlined below a range of Sierra Nevada itineraries for walkers and mountain bikers - with an indication of length and difficulty.

Or, why not take a walking tour of Granada to explore the historic centre, sample the famous "tapas", or see real flamenco in the cave district of Sacromonte? Tinbe can adapt and make alternative suggestions to ensure that the trip you choose best suits your expectations and budget.

Vereda de Estrella (Way of Star) - a beautiful valley walk with spectacular mountain views into the northern approaches of the high Sierra. This can either be undertaken as an easy "out and back" guided walk of whatever length you prefer, or as a day long "loop-return" outing. The full trip passes civil war bunkers and a picturesque ruined finca, which means 6-7 hours walking (with rest/photo stops) and some uphill.

Lavadera de la Reina (Queen's Bath) - a hike into the wilds northern slopes of the Sierra Nevada to a high mountain waterfall which is reputedly where the last moorish queen took a final bath before being exiled from Granada. This is a big walk (with big views) - but not too much height gain, and probably around 6 hours with stops. For the hardier trekker, an ascent of a 3000m peak can be included with this route (adding approximately 3 hours to the walk.

Trevenque - (sometimes described as the "Dolomites of Spain") is a nicely shaped (2000m) peak with a good scramble at the top, incredible views, and a feeling of well-being on reaching the summit. This is about a 40 minute drive from Guejar and the full trip takes around 6 hours.

Los Cahorras - For an "Indiana Jones" experience, there's a gorge walk (complete with suspension bridges) at "Los Cahorras" near Monachil - again a 40 minute car ride from Guejar and this walk can be between 3-4 hours, depending on route. Kids love this walk (even us older ones!).

Half day walk and a barbecue at Graham & Rosie's cherry farm - For a leisurely walk along the old tramway track by the side of the River Genil, then more steeply up the Loma de la Cuna de los Cuartos, through olive and oak stands, past deserted fincas and old "era"s (threshing circles), with views onto two beautiful valleys. After the exertion of the walk, relax at our cortijo with a glass or two of wine and a barbecue, and either choose to walk back or take a lift in our truck back down to your apartment.

Graham's favourite Mountain Bike Routes (can also include picnic on request) -

Tocon de Quentar - For all the pleasure of a bike ride with scarcely the trouble of the uphill grind. We drive up to the highest point of the route (approx 1700m) and roll off downhill on dirt-track for 28km with only about 3km at most of gentle up throughout the whole ride. The route takes you into some really wild and beautiful vistas with ever-changing scenery. As always, there's plenty of time to stop for a snack and simply enjoy the views and the tranquility. You finish your ride on tarmac swooping past the greeny-blue waters of the rock-enclosed Quentar reservoir and stop for a well-deserved drink/tapas at a roadside "Venta". This ride generally takes between 3-4 hours. For those with more energy to burn, the route can be extended by a couple of hours to include a climb through the almond groves from Quentar and back down into Guejar.

Veleta to Guejar - This is another downhill dream. We start at 2500m on the slopes of Veleta and bash down 5km of tarmac before starting the 2km of single track through scented pine forest. The trail then joins a swooping dirt track downhill to Guejar, a total ride time of approximately 2 hours.

Loma de Maitena - For some people the good things in life only become really good once you've worked for them. If you are one of those people, then this route is for you! We start at 1500m and bash up the dirt track slope of the Loma de Maitena for approximately 6km, where an incredible, spine-tingling view of the high Sierra Nevada takes your breath away (we have had one guest in tears at the sheer beauty of it). You can enjoy the vista for another 5km along the ridge of the Loma, with more gentle up and down hill. The high point of the ride is approximately 2200m, from which you sweep down the trail in lazy s-bends through wild and isolated moorland, past ruined "fincas" and always keeping an eye out for eagles, mountain goat, partridges, etc. The track then contours along the hill for another 8km, meandering in out out of several "barrancos" (gullies), splashing through streams and slight climbs/descents until you rejoin the main dirt track back downhill to the start. Ride time is approximately 3 and a half to 4 hours.

Granada Walking Tours

Why not take advantage of Tinbee's local knowledge to get a taste of the vibrant and historical city of Granada? Join us for a trip from Guejar by bus, then stroll along the Darro river towards the narrow winding streets of the Albaicin, where you can enjoy the spectacular view of the Alhambra palace with the Sierra Nevada mountains as a backdrop. We wind our way back through the Arab quarter, enjoying the "souk" style market stalls, taking in various landmarks, including the Capilla Real and the impressive Gothic and Renaissance Cathedral. The whole trip includes drinks and "tapas", in summer sitting in shady plazas watching the Spanish world go by, and we wend our way homewards up the hill to Guejar by bus to dream of Moorish days gone by, flamenco and matadors.
