Sierra Nevada mountain bike holidays provide the perfect all year round big riding holiday with trails to suit most levels from cross country whippet to gravity assisted thrill seeker. These are mountain bike holidays tailored by experienced mountain bikers who know the terrain intimately. Shaun and Csilla will strive to make your holiday challenging, exciting, skill enhancing and most of all fun!

Based in the traditional Andalucian mountain village of Monachil you will have the best of both worlds - with the National Park of Sierra Nevada rising above you on three sides and the beautiful city of Granada only 8 km away down the valley which means great riding, spectacular scenery a buzzing nightlife, history and culture.

Mountain Biking Trails

Thanks to the combined efforts of mountain goats, shepherds, contrabandistas and forest management, the Sierra Nevada has a stunning array of trails from forest tracks to super technical gully descents. In between it has more variations of the singletrack thing than you can shake a micro pump at; and all of it natural. The type of terrain is wholly dependant on the altitude you are riding at.

From hill foot farmland through pine forest rising to barren rocky peaks most of Sierra Nevada rides are of the epic nature which means lots of different terrain covered in one day. It may be dry and dusty, loose and rocky with steps and drops, or sometimes rooty with a covering of pine needles through the forest - indeed it may be all of these!

Rides are tailored to suit ability and fitness levels but at the same every effort is made to help you, the rider, experience some of the best trails you have ever ridden. This usually means a bit of effort in the climb, although on occasion a transport van can be called upon to help gain altitude.

Many of the trails have a remote feel and you are unlikely to see any other riders, with things only getting busy while the local shepherd and his flock pass through.

Bike Hire and Day Rides

If you are passing through or staying in Granada and want to ride you can rent bikes and guides on a daily basis.

Kinesis Phaze 5 hardtails with Marzocchi All Mountain 3 fork, Avid Juicy 5 discs, XT/LX bits for 30 euros per day.

Kinesis xc120 hardtails with Marzocchi MX Comp ETA fork, Deore discs, XT/LX bits for 30 euros per day.

Kona Cindercone hardtails with Hayes hydraulic disc brakes and Rock Shox J3 forks for 20 euros per day.

Shaun and Csilla also have a mixed bunch of older hardtails with V- brakes and bouncy forks for 15 euros per day.

Week-long holidays 2009:

Seven nights from 430 Euros per person. Includes airport transfer, accommodation in Monachil, breakfast supplies, five guided rides, uplifts and trail food. Excluding flights, insurance and meals.

Long Week-ends/Short Breaks 2009:

Three nights from 250 Euros per person. Includes airport transfer, accommodation in Monachil, breakfast supplies, three guided rides, uplifts and trailfood. Excluding flights, insurance and meals.

Accommodation:

Accommodation in Monachil - Casa de la Rueda - or in any of our Guejar Sierra properties. See for example - El Ladero Grande - or any of the properties in our Sierra Nevada section.

All sheets, duvets, blankets, towels are supplied. The properties are all within a couple of minute's walk of local shops, restaurants, bars, banks and bus stop.

Several of the local restaurants open up swimming pools for the enjoyment of customers in the summer.

Q. What spares will we have access to when in Monachil?.

A. We have a permanent stock of Panaracer and Geax tyres, innertubes, gear cables, brake cables, hydraulic brake fluid, v-brake pads, Shimano chains, cassettes, XT and Deore disc brake pads with further miscellaneous bits and bobs. Anything else you need can be found only 15 minutes drive away in Granada at Dr Bike where we are given priority service.

Q. What will I need to bring?.

A. Bring your normal riding kit, crash helmet, gloves (full finger), padded shorts, sunglasses, trail tools, pump, shock pump, spare mech hanger and any tools specific to your bike.

Q. Where is the nearest airport?

A. Granada international airport is only 20 minutes drive from Monachil..

Q. Are there places to eat locally?

A. Both Monachil and Guejar Sierra have a good choice of restuarants and tapas bars, while Granada's nightlife is a 1 euro bus ride or 12 euro cab ride away.
