Property - Local Facilities
Casa Uno offers all of the convivial pleasures of Mediterranean courtyard living - brilliantly sunlit patios, deeply shaded eating areas, covered walkways to quiet rooms, a fountain murmuring under the bougainvillea and the warm, relaxing waters of the solar heated pool.
From the outside, a simple finca in traditional Andaluz style, inside Casa Uno opens out into a spacious, comfortable villa. There is a large covered terrace for outdoor eating, a huge kitchen/dining-room with all facilities, a sitting room with wood-stove, laundry-room, sunroof with awnings and views to the Sierra Morena, a secure garage, and air-conditioning throughout for summer coolness and winter warming.
The 8 x 4 meter solar heated pool is entirely private and not overlooked by any other building. The pool is also safety-walled and gated. There are both sunlit and shaded areas with loungers offering leisurely relaxation both on the poolside patio and on the first floor sunroof. The sunroof also contains its own elegant marble topped dining table and gas fired BBQ. The covered undercroft with its massive Moroccan table provides outdoor eating for some ten months of the year.
Lying within the magic triangle of Andalucia’s ancient Moorish cities – Córdoba, Seville, Granada – and with the Spanish motorway system only 3km away, Casa Uno offers exploration and adventure with all the delights of Spain's ancient, but exuberant, civilisation near at hand.

The historic town of Cordoba - world famous for the stunning Arab Mosque the Mesquita with its countless Moorish arches - is only 25 mins away on the motorway. Here the winding medieval streets of the picturesque old walled quarter (the Juderia) are crammed with tapas bars, restaurants and the leather shops for which Cordoba is famous. The Juderia is also home to a bull-fighting museum and a gloriously restored baroque cathedral.
75 minutes down the motorway is Seville, still the most stylish of all Spanish cities, with its immense cathedral containing the tomb of Christopher Columbus, and next-door the palace of king Pedro the Cruel, the Alcazar, with its fabulous Moorish interiors, its shady, well-watered gardens and tales of intrigue.
2 hours in the other direction lies Granada with the most beautiful of all Moorish hilltop palaces, the Alhambra, and down in the city, the old Moorish quarter of the Albaicin, and the Cathedral containing the tombs of the los reyes catolicos, Ferdinand and Isabella, founders of the Christian kingdom of Spain. (Note: nowadays it is necessary to book well in advance to get into the Alhambra - let us know if you need help with this).
Also within easy reach, along excellent motorways, are the ancient port of Malaga with it's Picasso Museum; Jerez where the sherry comes from; the ancient isthmus of Cadiz, a city virtually unchanged, from when the victors of Trafalgar put in there in 1805; the spectacular Roman remains of Italica and Merida; the renaissance cities of Ubeda and Baeza; Jaen with its majestic cathedral by Vandelvira (Spain's greatest renaissance architect); the monastic silence of Las Ermitas high above Cordoba, and lower down the same mountain, the enthralling ruins of Medina Al Zahra - summer palace for the Caliphs of Cordoba at the very zenith of Moorish civilisation.
You can reach Casa Uno from Seville airport (1hr), from Malaga airport (2hrs), or take the high-speed AVE train from Madrid to Cordoba (25 minutes away), A hire car is essential - public transport to Las Pinedas scarcely exists, though there are excellent high speed buses from La Carlota to both Cordoba and Seville. ClickAir, RyanAir and Iberia fly to Seville from the UK. Most low-cost airlines fly to Malaga. |
