About Sierra Nevada & Pradollano Ski Resort :One of Europe's highest and most snowsure resorts offering long cruising descents and an excellent lift system, in combination with southern sunshine and an overall guaranteed good time. Sierra Nevada is also a great choice for families with a whole range of activities including, dog-sledding, ski bikes, inner tubing, tobogganing, ice skating and roller-sledding. This is the most southerly ski resort in Europe and, while smaller than some of the other major European resorts, the facilities are considered top rate and it has therefore hosted numerous national and international ski events. Sierra Nevada literally means 'Snowy Mountain Range' and it includes some of the highest peaks in Europe. The Mulhacen at 3,482m is the Iberian Peninsula's highest. The altitude usually guarantees a longer than average season - with the resort generally opening at the end of November and running through to the end of April, or even the first week of May. The resort has numerous runs of varying difficulties to satisfy skiers of all abilities. Natural snow is supplemented by snow cannons on some runs. Sierra Nevada defies many concepts associated with skiing. Located at barely a stone’s throw from the Mediterranean coast, it has practically guaranteed sunshine, the best spring snow conditions in Europe and is still reasonably priced compared to many of its European counterparts. As well as ski terrain to suit skiers & boarders of all standards, the resort also offers visitors an ever-expanding range of other facilities. Families will enjoy children's facilities such as the recently developed Mirlo Blanco recreation zone - with activities such as Ski Bikes, Inner Tubing, Ice Skating and the new “Roller-Sled”. The crèche and Snow Garden are well-run establishments with fully trained staff who look after children up to seven years old. Combine the excitement of the pistes with the ambience of real SpainStaying in the pretty village of Güejar Sierra offers the unique opportunity to enjoy both the diverse skiing of the Sierra Nevada and the atmosphere and charm of a traditional Spanish village. At only 35 mins from the resort and Borreguiles Cable Car (20 mins when the new link road is completed), Guejar is something of a well kept Spanish secret - its excellent selection of restaurants and quirky tapas bars offer great value compared to usual ski resort prices. This is where the sophisticated Granadinos and those 'in the know' come to enjoy the best of all that the Sierra Nevada can offer. Güejar is also a great centre for year-round adventure activities. This is an ideal base for mountain biking, walks of all levels, ice/rock climbing, canoeing, rafting, paragliding, horse-riding etc. And, at only 20 mins from historic Granada and the Alhambra Palace, Guejar is the perfect base for those who are seeking to combine a number of different elements into their holiday. Most of our Güejar Sierra properties enjoy stunning mountain views and are within 5 mins stroll of the village centre with its restaurants, tapas bars and shops.
Ski, Swim & RelaxThose who wish to combine a few days' skiing with more general sightseeing, or other activities such as horse-riding, may wish to consider our pretty Lecrin Valley cottages and villas. See for example Casa Magdalena - with solar-heated pool usable even in winter. These properties are ideal for an 'all-round' holiday - enjoying the tradtional ambience of the famously beautiful Lecrin Valley, while also within easy reach of historic Granada, the Sierra Nevada ski resort and the Costa Tropical. SKI & SEMANA SANTAGranada's biggest celebrations of the year fall in April during Semana Santa or Holy Week. This is a visual feast - the greatest of those outbursts of emotion, culture, religious feeling and sheer spectacle which punctuate the Spanish calendar. During this week - Easter Week - all of the major statues depicting the life of Christ and the Virgin Mary are removed from the churches and carried on their heavy and ornate silver and golden palanques, smothered with flowers and incense, through the streets. This is a spectacle in itself as it can take twenty or thirty men to bear the immense weight of just one of these massive teetering edifices. Every town and village has its processions (including Guejar Sierra) but the celebrations in Granada are considered some of the finest. Good days to see the processions in Granada are -
